Hikari Ich-X Pond Treatment utilizes the widely respected Leteux-Meyer formulation, improved with a safer and more effective form of malachite green. This proven treatment is designed to address ich (ichthyophthiriasis) and other protozoan-related disease conditions in pond and freshwater fish.
This formula is less taxing on biological filtration and can be safely used on scaleless and sensitive fish such as Corydoras when used as directed. It also helps control common fungal issues and remains effective even in cooler water temperatures down to 50°F.

Dosing Instructions
- Use 1 teaspoon (5 mL) per 50 gallons (189 L) of pond or aquarium water.
- Alternatively, use 1 oz (29 mL) per 300 gallons (1,135 L).
- Perform at least a 1/3 water change before each dose using a sulfate-free conditioner.
- Repeat treatment every 24 hours, or as frequently as every 8 hours depending on severity.
- Continue treatment for at least 3 days after all visible signs of disease have disappeared.
Best Practices:
- Always treat in a separate quarantine or treatment tank when possible.
- Remove activated carbon from filters before treatment.
- Maintain filtration but clean or replace mechanical media if needed.
- Daily water changes can help improve treatment effectiveness.
- Add aeration during treatment to support oxygen levels.
Important Notes: Do not use with other medications. Do not use with sulfinate or sulfoxylate-based water conditioners as this may reduce effectiveness. Avoid use if product has been frozen. If green crystals or clumping are present, do not use as it may become harmful to fish. If a rotten egg smell is detected, avoid use as it may indicate incompatible ingredients.
Product Sizes: 16 oz treats up to 4,800 gallons (18,169 L). 1 gallon treats up to 38,400 gallons (145,356 L).
Warning: May permanently stain silicone, rocks, concrete, plastics, and surrounding surfaces. Use disposable gloves. May be harmful to some invertebrates. If stress is observed, perform an immediate 50% or larger water change.
Safety: Avoid skin and eye contact. Avoid ingestion. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly and seek medical attention if needed. Keep out of reach of children. For aquarium and pond use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
PRO TIP
Always calculate your true water volume before dosing by measuring length x width x depth and converting to gallons, then subtract displacement from rocks, gravel, and equipment. Accurate dosing is critical for both effectiveness and fish safety.
