This submersible pond deicer is designed specifically for small and preformed ponds where floating deicers are not ideal. It helps prevent complete surface freeze, allowing harmful gases to escape and oxygen to enter, which is essential for fish survival during winter.
Using thermostatic control, the unit operates only when needed to keep water just above freezing. It is engineered to be safe for pond liners, preformed pond shells, and fish, making it a reliable choice for winter pond protection in colder climates.
Why Choose K&H Thermo-Pond Perfect Climate Submersible Pond Deicer?
-
Small Pond Ready: Designed for ponds up to 300 gallons and 18 inches deep.
-
Automatic Control: Internal thermostat cycles the deicer on and off as temperatures change.
-
Energy Efficient: Uses 300 watts to maintain winter gas exchange without excessive power use.
-
Fish and Liner Safe: Will not burn liners, preformed ponds, or harm fish.
-
Flexible Integration: Built-in inlets allow use alongside air or water pumps.
Winter Use and Safety Notes
This deicer is designed to maintain water just above freezing and cannot be adjusted to higher temperatures. The heating element must remain fully submerged at all times. Foam formation during operation is normal and harmless, caused by temperature differences in the water.
Care and Installation Guidelines
- Use only in ponds with a maximum depth of 18 inches.
- Do not operate unless the heating element is fully submerged.
- If ice has already formed, melt or drill a hole using an ice auger before placement.
- Never chop through ice, as shock waves can injure or kill fish.
- Plug into a properly grounded outlet and avoid permanent extension cord use.
- Remove snow and ice buildup from the pond surface around the deicer.
PRO TIP
Before winter sets in, remove fallen leaves and organic debris from the pond. Clean water going into winter greatly improves oxygen levels and reduces stress on fish, even when a deicer is used.
